Eco-Trails
Scenic forest paths along the Koznitsa and Vit rivers leading to waterfalls and panoramic ridges
Eco-Trails
The area around Teteven offers short but scenic forest trails leading to waterfalls, rocky ridges, and chapels with panoramic views. Most trails are easy (20 minutes to 2 hours one way), suitable for families, with dedicated parking areas and gazebos for resting.
Eco-Trail "Beneath the Waterfall Spray"
It starts from the center of Teteven (2-3 km along a paved road beside the Koznitsa River), then continues along a forest path to the Skoka Waterfall; in rainy weather, the second, taller waterfall, Pruskaloto, is also visible. The one-way hike takes about 20-40 minutes, is suitable for children, and features wooden footbridges and a gazebo.
Eco-Trail from Babintsi Village to Ostrich Peak and the Pokrov Bogorodichen Chapel
8 km from Teteven, starting near the school in Babintsi; about 1 km one way with roughly 100 m of elevation gain, through forest and a meadow with panoramic views of Teteven and the Vit River valley. The chapel sits at 1,050-1,100 m above sea level and was consecrated in 2007. The climb takes about one to two hours, with rest stops.
Eco-Trail "The Dangerous Tooth"
A forest path leading to a rock shelter facing Ostrich Peak, with panoramic views over Teteven - more challenging, offering the feel of a true mountaineer.
Pruskaloto Waterfall
The second, taller waterfall along the "Beneath the Waterfall Spray" trail, though it carries little water for most of the year.
Glozhene Waterfall
About 15 km from the center of Teteven, next to the "Pri Vidrite" complex on the road to Glozhene village; visible directly from the parking area, at its fullest in late spring or after rain.
Ostrich Peak and Neighboring Peaks (Cherven, Treskavets)
Popular hiking destinations in the Teteven Balkan range, offering views over the town and valley.
